Sony to Backpay $243M to Japanese Government
The Japanese Government has ordered Sony to pay an extra “27.9 billion yen ($243 million) in taxes related to transactions between its game unit and a U.S. subsidiary, and overseas transactions in its CD and DVD-making operations”.
Sony have had a few occasions where they’ve been told to cough up. Most notably would be when the British courts rejected Sony’s claim that the PS2 was a home computer, and therefore exempt from the EU’s entertainment tax.
Backpaying tax, paing the EU’s entertainment tax, then paying the court costs when Sony was fighting this all…It’s quite a big chunk of cash that Sony stands to lose. What will get affected by this?
