The Tokyo Game Show 2008

Did anyone manage to go to the Tokyo Game Show 2008?

I liked the Bleach game trailer that’s for the Tokyo Game show :)

Want to go to the Tokyo Game Show?

Sadly, it’s a bit out of our budget here at 3yen, but Kotaku are rolling in it, so they have a competition going now where they’ll give you and a friend return tickets to Tokyo and admission to the 2007 Tokyo Game Show, which will probably happen in September.

The competiton involves answering three sets of multiple choice questions on very basic gaming knowledge (or if you don’t know, you can always Wikipedia it), and one of the contestants who gets all three answers correct will win the prize at the end of March!

No word yet on whether it’s open to non-U.S. residents. I’m planning to enter anyway!

The Girls of Tokyo Game Show

A week ago Muken and I went to the Tokyo Game Show 2006. Games are sometimes somewhat interesting but don’t usually look too nice in photos, and the only interesting stuff in my humble non-hardcore-gamer-otaku opinion was the Sony pavillion, but they put signs everywhere to forbid pictures to be shot.

So, I went with the crowd, and shot the booth girls instead…

See all 70 girls in this photoset.

(More after the jump…)

TGS 2006

The Tokyo Game Show approaches! I went to this show last year. Sadly I can’t make it this year but it should be fun (and cheap! Only 1000 yen) so anyone who can make it to Chiba’s Makuhari Messe this coming September 22-24 (Friday the 22nd is a press-only day, Saturday and Sunday are open to the public).

For people lucky enough to go this year, note that you won’t be let in if you are dressed up in cosplay. You must get inside the venue first before you can get changed. I’m not quite sure why they do this. Surely, with cosplayers in Harajuku and Akihabara nearly every day and every weekend for sure, Tokyo-ites are used to seeing people dress up? I think they do it just to get the 500 yen fee for use of the changing rooms.

Another hint: Bring good shoes. There are not many places that you’ll be allowed to sit down and you will need all day to look at all the displays thoroughly, especially if you plan to play demos of the games.

There’s also not much in the way of food and drink besides vending machines, and maybe one kiosk that has to handle the thousands of attendees. Bring snacks with you.

And bring a camera with spare batteries and memory! There’ll be plenty of cosplayers, boothbabes/boys and stalls that you’ll want to take snaps of.

Lastly, make sure you can carry lots of loot. You’ll be handed flyers and promo items left, right and centre. Either stick it all in one of the showbags you’ll be given, or bring along someoneto carry it all for you while you run around trying out the upcoming game releases.

I’m so jealous.
